To:  Parents/Guardians/Students

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Huntsville Middle School.  My name is Donna Goodman, principal of Huntsville Middle School.

We here at HMS are looking forward to an exciting year with your student, filled with great academic success.  We want you to feel welcome to visit our school and visit with your student’s teacher.  We do request that you make an appointment with the teachers to speak with them during their planning times each day.  You need to come into the office prior to visiting the teachers to sign-in in the office.

Our School day begins at 7:55 a.m. and the last class of the day ends at 2:45 p.m. The students go to their homeroom class at 7:45 a.m. and are tardy if they arrive in the classroom after 8:00 a.m.   Early sign-out is discouraged in the afternoon as students will be in instruction until 2:45 each day.

No HMS students will be allowed on the elementary side without special permission from both principals.  To ensure each student has the opportunity to excel in each of their classes, it is very important that your student is PRESENT AND ON TIME each day and that they obey all the disciplinary and classroom rules.  These rules are for the safety and well-being of each and every student and teacher here at school.  We will be enforcing the rules set forth in the Scott County Schools, Student Handbook”, therefore we request that each student and parent read the handbook to become familiar with the rules and consequences. If there should be a rule that is not clear, please call the school and I will be glad to talk with you.  Please read the changes in dress guidelines and attendance in the student handbook.  These new rules will be in effect immediately.

These rules and guidelines are in place to help protect each student and provide a safe learning environment so that each student will have the opportunity to reach their maximum potential.  A copy of the handbook will be given to each student and it will be understood that these rules are effective immediately.

By State of Tennessee and Scott County board policy there is to be NO charging of lunches and breakfast at school. Students may pay by the day, by the week in advance or by the month in advance. Our school cashier will notify the student as they come through the lunch line if they have no money in their lunch account.

Pick-ups will be starting at 2:55.  All middle school pick-ups will be at the end of the middle school near the football field.  There will be no students picked up in front of the building at all during time that the buses will be loading.  All vehicles must pull around toward the gym where pick-up students will be dismissed.

We ask that you fill out the forms needed by the school.  In addition to the enrollment form, we ask that you fill out the school reach form.  This information is used to send an automated call to parents in the event of snow days or any unexpected event that may affect our school day or sporting events, for example letting school out early due to some unforeseen event such as weather.

I welcome your participation and support during the coming year.  Working together we can reach our goals and celebrate together the success and achievements of our students.

Sincerely,

Donna Goodman, Principal
